Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, Recreation or a related human services field
Minimum (1) one year of experience working with individuals with mild cognitive impairment or related cognitive conditions
Prior experience designing and facilitating group recreational or therapeutic activities in a community-based or clinical setting
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to lift, assist with mobility and otherwise support participants as needed (with reasonable accommodations)
Possession of CPR, American Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid Certifications are not required when applying, but must be obtained prior to employment
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekdays, evenings and weekends
Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain/maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS)
Programming experience working with individuals with disabilities
Responsibilities
Develops and implements activities and programs for age 18+ adults
Plans day trips and regular community outings
Consistently communicates and maintains relationships with participant caregivers/parents
Creates recreational and athletic programs to include but not limited to swim team, basketball, volleyball, seated volleyball, tennis, pickleball and group fitness related programs
Determines and collects fees for all programs
Creates and maintains relationships with community partners and vendors
Schedules for appropriate contract workers, vendors and sponsors for programs
Creates and schedules recreational and athletic programs
Schedules room space as needed for programs
Recruits and maintains volunteer and intern
Assists in coordination of special events
Promotes positive relations through programs and public assistance
Educates the community on accessibility and inclusion in all populations in Parks and Recreation Programs
Maintains daily records of attendance
Collects initial information on therapeutic participants
Determines if participants meet criteria set for the program
Develops and maintains participant’s records and documents (evaluations)
Creates flyers and memos
Drives passenger van and / or secure proper transportation when needed
