Overview

Hiring Range: $40,996.80 - $45,198.40

Starting salary may be adjusted depending on experience

This position may be assigned to work in any division of the Library: Children's and Teen, Community Services, Public Services, Administration, Technology, Materials Management or Arts

 

Qualifications

      1.  High School Diploma or GED equivalent with Two (2) years of Library Experience

                        OR

           Associates Degree with One (1) year of Library Experience

                        OR

           Bachelor's Degree or higher

 

     2.  Experience operating a computer, including Microsoft Office

     3.  Excellent internal and external customer service skills

     4.  Ability to maneuver among high and low shelves

     5.  Ability to load and unload heavy carts and equipment

     6.  Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekdays, nights and weekends

     7.  Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain/maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit

     8.  Passport Certification from the US Passport Services is not necessary when applying, but must be obtained within (6) months of employment

     9.  Certified as a Notary Public is not required when applying but is required within six (6) months of employment

Master's Degree in Library Science

Responsibilities

Assists patrons with material selection and downloadables; answer reader's advisory questions; provides passport agent services; notarizes documents for the public; answers reader's advisory questions; plans and implements adult library programs and services; plans and implements adult library programs and services for senior living facilities; plans and implements outreach to senior living facilities; analyzes department's collection to develop a collection to meet the needs of the community; classifies materials; prepares and processes book holds, intra-library loans and inter-library loans; assists patrons with Internet searches and electronic databases; maintain statistics; keep procedures up to date; operates the Bookmobile in the community to promote library services; responsible for vehicle maintenance schedule, reports vehicle maintenance issues and coordinates repairs with City of Hoover Fleet Management; prepares informational or educational programming for patrons and handles related publicity; supervises department on nights and weekends in absence of Coordinator; other duties as assigned.
