Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D.;
Must possess two (2) of the three (3) certifications from the State of Alabama at a Journeyman or Master's level:
Plumber certification
Gas Fitter certification
HVAC certification
Five (5) years or more of experience as a Plumbing, Gas Fitter or HVAC Installer;
Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain/maintain a City of Hoover Driver's Permit;
Possession of a Mechanical or Plumbing certification from the International Code Council or the ability to obtain certification within one (1) year of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Plumbing experience in both residential and commercial
Responsibilities
Inspects new and existing industrial, commercial, and/or residential properties to ensure compliance with City ordinances, approved plans, specifications, regulations, and codes;
Reviews plans and specifications for City and building code compliance and confers with contractors regarding related installations;
Confers with and provides information regarding code requirements to developers, engineers, architects, property owners, and others;
Addresses any complaints or problems from concerned parties and takes appropriate action to ensure an expedient resolution or alternative means to address the problem;
Investigates complaints regarding existing buildings or new construction to determine appropriate usage, code violations, or existing problems;
Interprets codes and regulations and explains permit and compliance conditions;
Coordinates assigned plumbing, gas, and mechanical inspection work with that of other related City personnel;
Maintains complete and accurate records of all inspections and any regulatory actions taken, including preparing written reports and correspondence and issuing notices to correct code violations;
Reviews blueprints for new construction and performs final inspections of assigned projects to ensure overall conformity to all code requirements;
Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas;
Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
